World Canals Conference - by gjanero 09/07/2010 @ 09:58 The 23rd World Canals Conference is returning to Rochester, NY, in September 19-24. Topics at this event include: • Economic Development andCommunity Revitalization • History Education and Interpretation • Marketing, Tourism and Recreation • Engineering, Management and Transport on Inland Waterways The event is tradiitonally well attended. This year, over 400 pariticpants are expected from 18 countries. More information is available at www.wccrochester.org. Looking for Volunteers for ALCOSAN Open House - by gjanero 08/16/2010 @ 07:27 The Pittsburgh Post has contacted ALCOSAN about volunteering to support their annual Open House. This is a great event that many of the board have been involved with before, and the event is on par with the outreach to children that we participate in at the Science Center during E-Week. ALCOSAN’s Open House is scheduled for Saturday, September 18, 2010. The shifts available to man booths are 8-4, 8-12, and 12-4 (They’ve noted that they need volunteers for the 12-4 shift the most.). If you can spare the time and would like to help out, please let me know as soon as you can. ALCOSAN needs to finalize their scheduling before September 4th. Thank You. Thank you to the 11 firms who came early and manned the mini-booths. and thank you to the 15 smaller firms and 4 agencies who also made presentations to the group. He has ties to the region and we're thankful that he's taking time out of his schedule to have dinner with the Post and for offer a discussion on "Engineers Getting Involved Worldwide." The event is intended to get the numerous young professionals of our region to gather together in a social setting. ![]() Joseph Bossard, our Treasurer, and Alyssa Kunselman, our Younger Member Committee Chairperson, were on hand to enjoy the company and to discuss the benefits of the organization to the attendees. E-Week is Approaching! Volunteers Needed! - by gjanero 01/21/2010 @ 10:06 National Engineers Week will be celebrated February 15 – 19, 2010. National Engineers Week was founded in 1951 to increases public awareness and appreciation of the engineering profession. During Engineers Week, engineers participate in a variety of interactive activities with the youth to generate interest in the engineering, science and math professions. The Society of American Military Engineers, Pittsburgh Post will work to increase public awareness and appreciation of the engineering profession. The Pittsburgh Post, along with several other organizations, companies and government agencies will have exhibit booths at the Carnegie Science Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on February 19 and 20, 2010 for this outreach effort. Activities will include gumdrop and toothpick buildings and bridges, an environmental engineering demonstration, and computer bridge design. The Post will welcome additional volunteer participation from both general and sustaining members who would like to assist in maintaining the booth and activities during Engineers Week activities. Interested persons may contact Mr. Jack Dziubek at 724-495-4186 or jdziubek@mbakercorp.com . Sustaining members are invited and encouraged to provide ‘souvenirs’ (e.g. pens, highlighters, etc.) that can be provided to booth visitors. Mr. Piacentini proved the Post with a very interesting, thorough, and enlightening discussion about the Conservatory's recent expansion, planned future expansion, and how effort of many have created an award winning enviornmentally conscious structure. The Pittsburgh Post sincerely appreciates Mr. Piacentini's time.
