The Pittsburgh Post has the great honor to provide three awards to its members in recognition of their outstanding accomplishments. The awards are given at our annual dinner, to be held in June this year. A list of these awards is provided below. This is one of the Posts most important activities. We encourage each of you to consider at least one candidate for a 2008 award. Everyone knows someone who deserves our recognition.
Please take a moment to pass this information on to others within or outside your organizations. Be sure to include your designated company Public Relations person. Please mail or email a few short paragraphs documenting your nominations achievements to the Chair of the Awards Committee: William A. The categories and criteria are as follows:
PROFESSIONAL OF THE YEAR
Established reputation for professional service and attainment.
Notable performance, meritorious achievement.
Long years of distinguished service, acknowledged eminence.
Original work, development, or activity.
Valuable contributions in improved practice, and applications benefiting the profession.
Contributions to increase knowledge and advancement in his or her area of expertise, in papers, other written contributions, research or practice.
Activity in SAME affairs, local and national.
Community service outside of profession.
Character and integrity.
No age limit.
YOUNG PROFESSIONAL OF THE YEAR
Limited to those not over 40 years of age in the year of the award.
Evidence of technical competence.
Indications of pursuing a fruitful career.
Notable performance, meritorious achievement.
Service to advancement of profession.
SAME activity.
Community service outside of profession.
PROFESSIONAL ACHIEVEMENT
Award made for any project that falls into the general category of engineering or science.
Contributions to well-being of people and community.
Resourcefulness in planning and solution of design problems.
Pioneering in use of materials and methods.
Innovations.
Consideration of impact on environment.
Unusual aspects and aesthetic values.
Any project within Post boundaries.
Award made for the year that the project goes into service.
